Set up Stripe
Take card payments through Stripe in your booking widget and on your booking page. Stripe handles 3D Secure (the extra bank check some cards ask for), and Apple Pay and Google Pay. The money goes straight into your own Stripe account. FullClass never receives or holds it.
What you get
- A Stripe card form inside your booking widget. When a customer's bank asks for the extra 3D Secure check, the form shows it automatically.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay on the websites you register.
- Refunds you can give from the booking's page in the admin.
What you need
- A Stripe account.
- The owner login for FullClass™. Only the owner can open the payment settings.
- About 15 minutes to set up test mode, plus a short test booking.
Test-mode setup (recommended first)
Stripe has a Test mode switch in its dashboard (the site where you manage your Stripe account). In test mode you pay with test card numbers, and no real money moves. Everything else works as it will when you go live, including the 3D Secure check. Always set up in test mode first.
Step 1. Copy the API keys
- Sign in to dashboard.stripe.com/apikeys. API keys are the codes that let FullClass take payments into your Stripe account.
- At the top of the dashboard, switch Test mode on.
-
Copy the Publishable key (it starts with
pk_test_). This key is safe to show in your booking widget. -
Click Reveal next to the Secret key (it
starts with
sk_test_) and copy it. Keep it as private as a password.
Step 2. Paste the keys into FullClass
- Sign in to FullClass as the owner.
- Open Settings → Payments.
- Under Choose how customers pay, pick Stripe. If you see Connect with Stripe, open Enter credentials manually instead to reach the key boxes.
- Paste the Publishable key and the Secret key.
- Click Save changes.
pk_test_
and sk_test_) together. Use the two live keys (pk_live_
and sk_live_) together. FullClass checks your keys when you
save. It stops you mixing a test key with a live key, and it checks that the
secret key works. So you find a problem when you save, not at a customer's
first payment.
Test a booking from start to finish
- Open your booking page, the way a customer would.
- Pick a paid event and fill in the booking form.
-
Pay with a Stripe test card. Use
4242 4242 4242 4242for a normal payment, or4000 0027 6000 3184for a card that asks for the 3D Secure check. Stripe lists more on its Stripe testing cards page. - Check that the booking appears in the admin, paid through Stripe, with a Stripe payment ID.
Apple Pay and Google Pay
For Stripe, you prove you own each website with one small step.
-
Add the file
/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-associationto each website that shows your widget. Whoever looks after your website can do this. You can download the file from Stripe's docs. - Register the website under Settings → Payments → Wallet payment domains. Stripe checks the website by looking for the file.
For the full steps and fixes, see Apple Pay and Google Pay.
/.well-known/ address. On those
websites, Stripe cannot offer Apple Pay. Square can, because it checks your
website itself.
Interac Debit (Canada)
Canadian customers can pay with Interac Debit through Apple Pay or Google Pay. Stripe has to switch it on for your account first. It is off until you ask.
- Set up Apple Pay and Google Pay first (see the section above). Interac Debit online works through those wallets.
- Email Stripe at [email protected] from the email address on your Stripe account. Ask them to switch on Interac Debit for online payments.
Nothing changes in FullClass. Once Stripe switches it on, debit cards in customers' wallets that support Interac pay through Interac automatically. Receipts show the payment as Interac.
Go live
- In the Stripe dashboard, switch Test mode off.
-
Copy the live
Publishable key (
pk_live_) and Secret key (sk_live_). - Paste them into Settings → Payments in FullClass and click Save changes.
- Make one small real booking. Then refund it from the booking's page, to check that both payments and refunds work.
Refunds
- Refund from the booking's page in the admin. You can refund the full amount or part of it.
- The refund amount and its reference are saved on the booking. They show in your reports and in the daily check of payments against bookings.
- Refunds you make in your Stripe dashboard also update the booking automatically, if you connected with the Connect with Stripe button on Settings → Payments. If a customer disputes a charge with their bank, the booking is marked as disputed.
Stripe's own receipt emails
- By default your customers get one email per booking. That is the FullClass confirmation, with the itemized receipt in your branding. Stripe's own receipt is switched off.
- To have Stripe email its receipt as well, go to Settings → Payments and tick Also send Stripe's own receipt.
Troubleshooting
- Card form doesn't appear
- Check that Stripe is picked under Choose how customers pay, and that both keys are saved. Reload the booking page after saving.
- Mixed test & live keys
- The Publishable key and the Secret key must come from the same mode. Copy both again from Stripe, with Test mode set the same way for both.
- 3D Secure check fails
- Either the customer did not finish the check in the pop-up, or their bank declined. Ask them to try again. If it keeps failing, they can try a different card.
- Apple Pay button missing on a registered website
-
Check that the file at
/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-associationopens on that website for anyone, without a login. Then register the website again if you need to.
